Flash Mobs Swamp Cheesebikini

July 25th, 2003

Last night cheesebikini was Slashdotted, and combined with all the other flash mob traffic this brought the server to its knees. (Sorry Dav!)

For the moment cheesebikini must be replaced with this placeholder.
Many goodies don’t work, including comments, the alert list, etc. The only two pages available are this page and the list of free San Francisco wi-fi cafes. Links to outside sites still work.

UPDATE, 7/26/03: We’re up and running on a new server, and with an upgraded moveabletype backbone to boot. On Friday alone, more than 9,300 visitors came to that placeholder page that I put up in place of cheesebikini. The server just couldn’t handle it, but the new servers can support a lot more traffic. Thanks for your patience.

    Poor CheeseBikini

Poor CheeseBikini got knocked offline when he was quoted in a slash dot article. Although its not suprising that his server couldn’t cope with the load, what is suprising is that it took this long before flash mobs gained the…

Our Baltimore Museum of Art was involved in an unusal scandal for posting questionable artwork. They also have a large open lobby which could hold

about 150 people, an adjacent bar – 100 – and a very nice garden.

A lot of people – questioning the art they see.

    How ’bout that.

I do not have a URL site – I am just an “End User”

I think the above texts are proof of weakness of our culture. Everyone wants to be part of a mass mob flash because it is the secure, safe way to be once again “uniquely the same” ….

I’d say they are rebels without applause

    uniqueness without a cause

    RE: ” Above Text ”

You said,” proof of weakness of our culture”.

    What, you need proof?

At least our culture allows people to say what they want…. like what you said/;.;you know

Then you said,” because it is the secure, safe way to be once again “uniquely the same”.

    Well……I like “safe and secure”

    and the rest…..

We all want to be unique, like I am sure you feel you are.

But we also all want to be the same…in the respect that no one wants to be alone, yet we all want to be unique, hmmmmm?

I feel I am unique because I can relate to you, yet, The more people relate to me, the less unique I am.

Maybe the best way to be unique is to be myself, and be glad everyone else is trying to do that too.

    Bye,

    Dan
