Cheesebikini Cam
September 20th, 2003I finally joined the 21st Century and set up a live photoblog: http://www.cheesebikini.com/cam.
Technically my phonecam belongs to its manufacturer, Nokia. But it’s mine for the semester.
(Definitions: A phonecam is a mobile phone with a camera built in. A live photoblog, also called a “moblog,” is a site where snapshots from a phonecam appear live as they’re taken in the field; the photographer can update the site using nothing but a phonecam.)
The phonecam I’m babysitting is a Nokia 3650; it can capture still photos, audio and short video segments, and it can send this content to any e-mail address. With a little messing around, you can use this to build a photoblog.
I’m working on a project for Nokia at Berkeley; we’re developing applications for these phonecams and creating metadata frameworks that we hope will make it easier for regular people to create, annotate, retrieve, share and work with photos and video. Here are details of the project.

but flash mobbing in san diego, CA seems to have taken a turn for the worse. it is incredibly lame…lame being the best and only word to describe it.
Check out the Carlazone at Carlazone.com. I’ve hooked her up with a mobile webcam for a few years now, but last Christmas it took the ultimate convergence and turned into a phonecam picture blog using Sprint PCS Vision. A lot better than carrying a small laptop around in a bag…
WOW! That phone takes fantastic photos. I’m from SF myself (Mission) but living in Kobe, Japan. I just got a picture phone here, but the Nokia you have is great. How much does it cost to send a picture? Mine cost about 30 cents per 12K picture to send by email. I have a panasonic Docomo P504is. Good luck with the study. If I can help, let me know.

Irvine
1:30 In front of the “Improv”, Irvine Spectrum Centre (5 at the 405)
Special Instructions optional: Bring single stem roses.
Hollywood

Santa Monica
1:30 In front of the “Playland Arcade” (350 Santa Monica Pier)
Special Instructions optional: Bring an empty suitcase and passport (props only you won’t be going anywhere)
Volunteers will have the letters “GFM” pasted somewhere on their bodies, so look for that.
Don’t forget to include lattitude/longitude meta-data in phones that support it! (eg/ GPS, E911 functionality) so we can put your photos on the map!
I’m all about the location-aware stuff! But my phone doesn’t support latitude and longitude tagging.
It -does- support cel-number tagging, but I haven’t had time to dig into that… (And it’s not very precise anyway).
How much is a GOOD Phone going for?
That’s the only thing I can see a phone cam being good for. Sweet!
